A new creation by Noa Wertheim and Rina Wertheim Koren for the Vertigo Dance Company is a sensory–physical journey into one of the most elusive and profound concepts: time.
It is an attempt to decipher the pulse of the world and the pulse of humankind — the constant tension between the perishable body and the eternity that longs to remain.
The work begins with a seemingly simple question: Does time pass over us – or do we move within it?
From this inquiry emerges a piece that contemplates the layers of time imprinted in the body and memory, and the ways in which culture shapes our experience of time.
“Nona is an attempt to explore quantum time,” says Noa Wertheim.
“A space where all possibilities are open, where everything can happen — and in a single moment, a collapse occurs, a superposition, a collision between the multidimensional nature of existence and the linearity of everyday life.”
The title of the work draws on three goddesses from Roman and Greek mythology who spin the thread of every human life.
Like them, time in the dance is unraveled and rewoven again and again — measured, stretched, cut, and continually formed anew.
At the heart of the performance stand the dancers, moving within the race of modern culture.
The body is driven forward, sometimes to the edge of mechanical repetition; recurring movements run yet remain stuck in place — reflecting the paradox between constant motion and stillness.
And then, suddenly, time slows down.
It opens, releases itself from urgency, allowing presence and reflection.
A movement filled with gentleness and surrender — an acknowledgment of the fragility and beauty of existence.
The choreographic space oscillates between the individual and the collective, between solitary gestures and shared circles.
Thus unfolds a dialogue between linear time, moving ever forward, and cyclical time, returning in infinite recurrence.
Extreme events of recent years lead us to ask: How do we live our time? What does it mean to be present within a changing reality?

Nona is a work about time — but also an invitation to pause.

To listen.

To move.

To understand that while time slips away from us, it is also the only thing truly in our hands.

Like a delicate thread we can pull, unravel, and weave anew, again and again.
