The solo ‘Kristin’ is a testament to the body-mind state of a young woman during these times. The solo is a continuation of May Zarhy’s research into the relation between memory and movement. Together with the dancer Amit Zaretsky, they explore how her dance is driven by dealing with invisible forces, which are made visible for the audience and herself through her dancing. In a state of constant flux, she moves through various situations and places. At some moments one can recognize a word or a context to that which she goes through, and then the moment passes and the agitation continues. The solo is an accumulation of experiences condensed into a movement monologue called ‘Kristin’. The performance of ‘Kristin’ follows a unique format which is: solo, conversation, and the solo presented a second time. The conversation offers a glimpse into the creative process and their working methods, providing tools and a fresh perspective for the second viewing. The total length of the evening is 80 min.
May Zarhy, a choreographer based in Israel and Germany, explores movement in relation to space, which she perceives as a realm where tensions, histories, and past events coexist. Her recent works include: On the Threshold (2025), Kristin (2024), and Presencia (2023). She is a graduate of Codarts in the Netherlands and the ex.e.r.ce choreography program in France. During her studies, she assisted William Forsythe in Germany. Later, she co-founded the Mamaza collective in Germany with Ioannis Mandafonis and Fabrice Mazliah, with whom she created and performed around the world. She initiates pedagogical art platforms such as Encore dance series at the Teo Center in Herzliya, Cinemay Choreographic Cinema, and more. From 2021 to 2023, she directed the choreography program at Kelim. She teaches at venues such as Pro-Mornings at the Suzanne Dellal Center, Tanzfabrik Berlin, Maslool Training program, and others.
