Andalusian Legacy between Piyyutim and Flamenco
Sounds carrying time and memory within them encounter contemporary live stage art. The song of Spanish Jews, formed in the writings of poets-paytanim such as Shlomo Ibn Gabirol, Yehuda Halevi and Moshe Ibn Eza, and maintained through the Andalusian traditions of North Africa, is brought to the stage as a live and present vocal material, together with flamenco, a corporeal and musical language that carries with it a history and rich layers of emotion. In a special show for the Días de Flamenco Festival 2026, The Israeli Andalusian Orchestra Ashdod, flamenco guitarist Manuel Cazás and flamenco artist Adva Yermiyahu, will meet on one stage, together with renowned Spanish dancer Adrián Santana and flamenco dancer Adi Movdat, and intertwine sounds and movements, tradition and contemporary interpretation. The encounter between the worlds does not aim at blurring borders but rather allowing them to meet, resonate with one another, move away to get closer, and rediscover themselves.
