Tamar Lamm, David Kern, Tilman O’Donnell |  History was Written by the Losers: Hoedown Showdown

In History was Written by the Losers: Hoedown Showdown, Tamar Lamm, David Kern and Tilman O’Donnell portray three Cowboys – the “Losers” referred to by the title. They drift between folk songs about great historical figures (heroes, artists, philosophers, scientists) and dancing, passing movements from one to another while continuously modifying certain details. As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the losers have no grasp of historical fact. The history they recount is incorrect, but points the way to a new logic of events.
The title is a play on the cliché “History is written by the victors.” The “Losers” attempt, with humor and some bitterness, to come to grips with the fact that they will never be written into any history book.
This piece was created with support from WELD (Stockholm) and the Israeli Choreographers Association.

David Kern began in San Francisco Ballet, later moving to Frankfurt to work with William Forsythe. He’s choreographed works in styles ranging from classical to avant garde in spaces ranging from Opera houses to river beds.

Tamar Lamm started her dance career in New York in Erick Hawkins’ Company. In Europe, she took part in numerous contemporary productions before returning to Israel. Back home, she continued dancing with Yasmeen Godder, Iris Erez, Eyal Weiser and others. She’s one of Israel’s top dance photographers.

Tilman O’Donnell has worked with Europe’s top dance companies as dancer, choreographer and teacher. He’s been awarded with “Dancer to Watch”, “Choreographer to Watch” and “New Hope” in “Ballett Tanz” magazine. He’s created works with William Forsythe, Dana Michel, Deborah Hay and others.
