A dance performance that examines the boundaries of the human body within a virtual world, creating a fascinating artistic experience. The piece explores questions of identity, inner freedom, and the constant human struggle with internal conflicts that limit them. Through visual and movement imagery, the work portrays a physical and mental transformation, immersing the audience in a human journey of self-discovery and change. The dance not only expresses struggle but also offers a dark sensory experience imbued with emotional power, where the body becomes a symbol of liberation and the pursuit of freedom. The characters in the performance undergo a transformation, driven by a desire to uncover their hidden potential and express their true selves. The piece offers a glimpse into the tension between the visible and hidden realms in which humans live within a virtual world, breaking through their inner conflicts through the avatar figure that lives within the soul of the dance.
Merav Cohen | Choreographer and Artistic Director of the dance company Shinua, a Haifa-based dance company established in 2022. Winner of the Minister of Culture and Sport Award for creators in 2015. A member of the Choreographers Association, her works are showcased in festivals and theaters both in Israel and abroad. She is the founder of the creators school “Portrait of the Creative Artist” at the Acre Theater. In 2020, she established the Shinua Dance Center, where she managed the dancer training workshop initiated by the Association for the Advancement of Dance in Haifa. Currently, she performs the solo piece “Bird Body”. The company’s new production, “TransAvatar”, will premiere in 2025.
