Monger | by Barak Marshall
A physical theatre work.
Monger tells the story of a group of servants imprisoned in the basement of the home of an abusive mistress.
The movement in the piece is emotional, visual, and theatrical, incorporating contemporary ethnic motifs.
The soundtrack of Monger blends elements of Gypsy and Balkan music with classical and rock influences.
Monger explores the dynamics of hierarchy, power, free will, and the compromises people make in order to survive.
The work premiered in October 2008 at the Suzanne Dellal Centre and opened the 2008 International Dance Festival in Tel Aviv.
It has been revived and will be presented in 2025 as Barak Marshall’s first work as Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer of the Inbal Dance Company.
“Barak Marshall is a true creative artist, a mature choreographer with a powerful style and a unique voice. His work is physical, original, and fiery, carried by outstanding dancers and by an inner force and intelligence that infuse it with mesmerizing eloquence.” — Le Nouvel Observateur
