“NO NAME” is a bold statement on a woman’s choice to be herself
The story of an actress is told in the genre of “autofiction,” blending an authentic life story with artistic freedom. It’s a personal, unrelenting tale set against significant historical events: Soviet education, immigration, war, success, addiction, and violence.
From childhood, she feels “not enough,” battling expectations and slipping into self-destruction — dependence, self-violence, alienation, and objectification of her own body.
Throughout, she searches for support, someone to lean on, but ultimately finds strength within herself. The narrative includes elements inspired by Sarah Kane’s “4:48 Psychosis.” Though the protagonist didn’t perform in the play, its theme of a woman losing meaning intertwines with her story. Kane’s play ends in suicide; in “No Name”, the protagonist finds a different ending.
In an era where power and violence dominate, “No Name” emphasizes vulnerability, the right to err, and the freedom and strength to choose life — stronger than anything else.
