Dancing Outside

A professional dance program for the public space for graduates of professional dance programs

Dancing Outside is a project of Suzanne Dellal Centre, created in response to the covid pandemic and the restrictions that have crippled the field of performance. The project provided choreographers and the 12 “Maslool” graduates employment during the crisis and brought professional dance to the public in outdoor spaces. The repertory included notable Israeli choreographers including Ella Rothschild, Noa Zuk, Nadav Zelner, Mor Shani, and others.  Dancing Outside was supported by the Municipality of Tel Aviv-Yafo.

In light of the success, we seek to continue to maintain a similar framework in 2021 but one that will allow all graduates professional dance schools apply.

The program will serve as an apprenticeship for young dancers, will allow them to continue to specialize and give them additional tools in their professional path. The dancers in the program will perform with short works of up to 15 minutes long preformed in various public space.

The exposure to the public for the dancers is part of the professional experience growth while the audience enjoys access to the dance openly and for free.

The plan will be modular and according to the needs of the places where they will take place.

The program will be held in the Suzanne Dellal Centre 4 days a week from 9:00 to 16:00 with 13-14 dancers and will include work with leading artists (Sharon Eyal, Orly Portal,

Roy Assaf , Noa Zuk, Ella Rothchild and more).

Each work about 15 minutes each, so that all the works together creates one evening and each work will stand also on its own the public space.

A total program of 8.5 months of activity per year starting from August 2021 until July 2022.
